Odyssey is an AI research lab working on one of the deepest open problems in machine intelligence: general world models. Where most AI systems are trained to perform narrow tasks, Odyssey is building causal, multimodal systems that can learn to model how the world works — predicting outcomes, understanding cause and effect, and interacting with complex environments over long time horizons. This positions Odyssey alongside other world-model-focused labs (like DeepMind and select research groups at Meta and Google) but with a focused, independent research mandate. General world models are considered a foundational step toward more robust, general-purpose AI — systems that do not merely pattern-match on training data but can reason about and simulate the consequences of actions in novel situations. Odyssey's work has implications for robotics, autonomous agents, scientific simulation, and any application where an AI system must plan and act in dynamic real-world environments.
